Struck into stillness by this innovative chopper bike handmade by Metal Mora from San Jose, Costa Rica. I asked Metal, “How long does it take to make a bike like this? How much does it cost?” Metal responded, “Three months and approximately $300″.  Shocked to hear how inexpensive this bike cost.

My colleague Ayal Bryant, Co-Founder of Chepe Cletas, and I were walking to the Coca Cola bus station after a successful Walking Tour with 20 High School kids from the United States.  It was  pouring down rain all day long which didn’t stop Ayal, I or the tribe of students eager to learn about San Jose, Costa Rica.  More details about the Walking Tours in San Jose contact Ayal at http://chepecletas.com

Ayal and I turned the corner, approaching the center of the city, to a pack of urban members of BiciClub.  I was suddenly stopped in my tracks between the buckets of rain and this black handmade beauty.  As you can see in the photo below, Mora is a proud self propelled fabricator of something extraordinary and unique to the culture of Costa Rica.  He and I share a very similar dream to build, ride and explore, passionately and sustainably.

The most amazing completion of an amazing day was sharing my project to build Bamboo Bikes in Costa Rica. Mora grinned and pointed his finger at me and said, “Your the lady with the Bamboo Bike. I want to see this bamboo bike. Maybe sometime I can make a bike just like yours?”

I responded, “Some day, very soon, you just might make a bike just like mine!”
